Beech Grove Middle School A Team Vanquish Southport In High-Scoring Affair

There were runs aplenty on Monday at Beech Grove Middle School, as Beech Grove Middle A Team topped Southport 16-9. Beech Grove Middle A Team collected five hits, while Southport had six. Beech Grove Middle A Team rallied for the victory despite trailing 6-2 in the second. Southport opened the scoring in the first inning. Beech Grove Middle School A Team took the lead in the bottom of the first. A dropped third strike scored two runs to give Beech Grove the upper hand, 2-1. Southport flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 6-2. Beech Grove tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to an inside-the-park home run by Laila Herron, and a walk by Payton Kelly. Southport took the lead, 8-6, in the top of the fourth. Beech Grove flipped the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 10 runs on four hits to take the lead, 16-8. The most significant blow in the inning was a triple by Bailie Harper that drove in two. Samarah Turner opened the game for Beech Grove Middle School A Team. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and nine runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking two. Herron provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Beech Grove with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Sage Yeary led Beech Grove with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Hayden Fanning and Journey Miller each stole multiple bases for Beech Grove. Beech Grove ran wild on the base paths, amassing seven stolen bases for the game. Beech Grove turned one double play in the game. Beech Grove Middle School A Team will travel to Decatur Middle for their next game on Tuesday.
