Bailie Harper Powers Beech Grove Middle School, Past Southport Middle Cardinals Bailie Harper hit two home runs and drove in seven as Beech Grove Middle A defeated Southport Middle Cardinals (RED) 19-9 on Monday. Harper homered in the third and fifth innings. Beech Grove collected 13 hits, and Southport Middle Cardinals (RED) had five in the high-scoring affair. Beech Grove opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to four singles. Beech Grove got on the board first when Laila Herron singled, scoring one run. Beech Grove added one run in the second after Maisie Moore singled. Beech Grove scored four runs in the top of the third on an inside-the-park grand slam by Harper. Kaylie Campbell hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth for the Beech Grove. Beech Grove scored seven runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Moore doubled, scoring one run; Payton Kelly drew a walk, scoring one run; Campbell singled, scoring one run; and Harper hit an inside-the-park grand slam. Moore earned the win for Beech Grove. The pitcher gave up five hits and nine runs (three earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking six. Olivia Stennett appeared in relief for Beech Grove Middle A. Beech Grove piled up 13 hits in the game. Herron, Moore, and Campbell each collected multiple hits for Beech Grove. Jaliyah Golder led Beech Grove Middle A with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 13 walks for the game. Kelly, Herron, and Campbell each stole multiple bases for Beech Grove. Beech Grove ran wild on the base paths, accumulating 13 stolen bases for the game.
